This presentation will provide an overview of Pharmacogenomics and its role in clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the basics of Genomics
  • Identify molecular tools for genomic diagnostics
  • Describe the role of pharmacogenomics in current practice
  • Interpret pharmacogenomics reports
  • Identify future directions of pharmacogenomics

This topic will be presented by Dr Madhivanan Sundaram. Dr Sundaram has been practicing as a nephrologist for 15 years. After working in India for 5 years, he moved to Australia in 2011. He has wide experience in all facets of nephrology. His areas of interest are immunological renal disorders, transplantation and inherited renal disorders. He developed an interest in genomics after encountering familial disorders in Indigenous families. He completed a masters in diagnostic genomics in 2020 and is involved with collaborative research with KIDGEN and ANU. Besides clinical work, he also mentors JMOs as the Director of Clinical Training and assists with VCGS to run genetic clinics at the Royal Darwin Hospital.
